Sandford Park Lido will be hosting the 2017 British Water Polo Championships finals, on the 27th and 28th May. This is the first time in over 30 years the top club competition in Britain (water polo’s FA cup) has been held outdoors. The Lido is the training base for Cheltenham swimming and water polo team, who use both the 50m pool and the lawn area for all their vital summer training. The facility has be influential to the team’s recent success which has seen the town side win the last British League title and win the British Championship twice in the past 5 years. The Chair of The British Water Polo Championship committee has said “we are so please to have the use of the Sandford Lido, it is a fantastic facility in beautiful surroundings, we are looking forward to working with the pool staff and management to make this the most successful event we have hosted.”
