The first employees

As you can see from the above photograph the first Lido staff uniform resembled that found in the Navy The first Manager was Lt Commander Roy Berryman Edwards (back row 2nd in from left).

He had previously successfully opened Sandown Pool and following the success of Sandford Parks Lido he then moved on to open an outdoor pool in Maidenhead, followed by an indoor pool in Crewe.

In 1937 he was called back to the Navy and in 1939 he was posted on HMS Watchful to be Rendering Mines Safe Officer. This last commission took his life whilst dismantling a mine on the south coast.
