You may already be aware of the boiler failure that we have suffered here at the lido. You can read more on this atwww.sandfordparkslido.org.uk/news.html
The facility opened for the first time in 2016 on Saturday 9th April but without any heat in the pool. This morning the pool temperature has hit a new low at 12.6C.
The triathlon on Sunday 1st May will take place but whilst we hope to rectify the situation, at this stage we do not know whether the pool will be heated. It is an ongoing situation and we may have our normal 25C water, but at this point we need to plan for the worst. The water temperature has the following implications for the race:
- If the pool water has a temperature below 14C then the use of wetsuits will be compulsory.
- If the pool water is over 14C but below 22C then the use of wetsuits will be optional.
- If the pool water is at or around our normal 25C then the use of wetsuits will be forbidden.
We accept that many of you may be entering this race as your first triathlon and be expecting a warm water experience, or you do not own or have access to a wetsuit to use in the race. With our current predicament we are willing to offer a full refund on your entry (less admin fee) which you can claim up until Friday 22nd April. If you would like to withdraw and receive a refund, please email Iain email@example.com.
If you still plan to take part in the race then we are offering you free entry to the lido leading up to the race on 1st May in order for you to acclimatise or try out a wetsuit in the pool. A list of entrants will be kept at the lido reception so please state your name when you enter.
With the boiler failure causing a huge financial headache for the lido we would also encourage you to fundraise for the lido as part of your entry to the race. As a not for profit organisation all funds raised go to maintaining the facility for future generations. If you haven’t already done so you can set up a fundraising page at www.justgiving.com/spl.
