A Message from Cobalt

We need your help in order to undertake breast cancer research that will save lives.

We need to raise £66,000 each year to enable this to happen. Every donation no matter the size, will help this to happen and every £1.00 donated is given 100% to fund the nurses salaries.

Breast Cancer Research in Gloucestershire

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK. The Thirlestaine Breast Centre, in Gloucestershire has the opportunity to engage with breast cancer research at the highest levels to save lives. The Centre is led by experts including Dr Sarah Vinnicombe and new state of the art mammography equipment has been purchased that increase the clarity of images produced.

However there is no resources within NHS budgets to utilise this equipment for research. In order for this to happen we need dedicated Breast Cancer Research Nurses to be based at the Centre. This in turn will allow the Centre to become a breast cancer research hub and enable our participation in high quality clinical trials and studies, getting new treatments to patients sooner. The Gloucestershire Breast Screening Service has an eligible population of approximately 115,000 women and sees on average 125 symptomatic women each week. Research at this Centre will open up opportunities for these patients to participate in trials.

Research is essential to find out which treatments work better for patients. It plays an important role in discovering new treatments, and making sure that we use existing treatments in the best possible ways. Research can find answers to things that are unknown, fill in gaps in knowledge and changing the way that we work.’

£128 will fund a Research Nurse for a day to develop and coordinate new and on-going clinical trials, which will in turn give patients access to the best care and treatments.

Please help us to provide the best.

Thank you for your support,
Kirsty Bradbury
