National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

Sandford Parks Lido is an IQL Approved Training Centre for lifeguard training including the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) which all pool staff must undertake to work at the facility. Throughout the season the lido hosts a number of NPLQ training courses. These are typically a week of training with an assessment at the end. The course requires that you complete 40 hours and as such it is required for you to have 100% attendance. Each day will be a mixture of wet and dry sessions, both around the Sandford Parks Lido complex and in the classroom, please being appropriate clothing for post swimming and in case of wet weather. Please note, you must be 16 years old at the time of assessment to complete this course.

Course Pre-requisites:
    • Jump / dive into deep water
    • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
    • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
    • Tread water for 30 seconds
    • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
    • Climb out unaided without ladder / steps and where the pool design permits
