The 1935 established pool is part of the heart & heritage of Cheltenham

A brief history of Cheltenham’s Lido

1927 - Land purchased
Originally the land was owned by Cheltenham College and was purchased by Cheltenham Borough Council for use as allotments in 1927.
1934 - Lido Agreement
After much debate about actually going ahead with a build of a lido due to financial risks due to the financial depression, the build started.
1935 - Lido Opens!
The Project was completed in early 1935 and was officially opened by the Mayor.
2006 - Refurbishment
A successful refurbishment took place, a perfect time to reflect upon the history of swimming, the 1930s boom in lidos and the survival of the lido and its success in such a changing world.
2023 - The Lido is still enjoyed by many
The passion of local people has prevented the Lido’s closure over the years and the dedication and hard work of the Charitable Trust has now secured the future of our beloved lido.

A 50m heated pool that combines fitness, fun, family & heritage all in one.

The 50m heated outdoor pool is obviously a huge attraction but the lido is much more than just a swimming pool. From yoga and triathlons to dog swims and lifeguard training plus so much more!
