Sustainability at Sandford Parks Lido

Our Sustainability Commitment

We are committed to playing our part in the global priority of reducing emissions and waste and safeguarding water whilst maintaining everything we love about our Lido – its historic nature, its character and the enjoyment and wellbeing it brings to its users.  

Our strategy is therefore to prioritise and pursue energy efficiency and sustainability measures that make economic sense and ensure a long and sustainable future for Sandford Parks Lido and its community. 

We have exciting plans but we will continue to listen, to learn and to welcome challenges from our stakeholders so that we develop in the best way possible but all the time reducing our environmental impact.

What we currently do

Sandford Parks Lido Sustainability

Reduce Waste:

  • Zero to Landfill
  • We don’t print tickets, everything is held via our online booking system.
  • We sell reusable drink bottles and mugs

Reduce energy consumption:

  • Energy saving lighting in the changing rooms and toilets
  • Optimised the running of all the pool plant equipment
  • Buy local and use local business as much as possible

What do our cafe do?

Reduce waste
  • Recycle all waste oil
  • Use wooden cutlery
  • Napkins are made from recycled products
  • They aim to keep packaging to a minimum
  • All packaging to be compostable

What we have already achieved?

Reduced Energy Consumption:

  • Solar panels on the main plant room roof
  • Installed pool covers
  • Installed new boiler for the pool water
  • Installed new heat plate exchangers for the boiler
  • Adjusted pump running speeds on the boiler system
  • Reduced burn temperature on the boiler
  • Refurbished the original filters
  • Installed energy saving lighting in the changing rooms and toilets
  • Installed insulation in all roof voids
  • Refurbished the main and children’s pool structures to eliminate water loss
  • Replaced 80% of the main pool circulation pipework
  • Repaired leaks on the children’s pool heating circulation

What we would like to achieve

  1. Complete our full site decarbonisation plan

What can our customers do to help reduce our carbon footprint?

Reduce Waste:

  • Purchase a reusable Lido mug or water bottle
  • Minimise the waste packaging you bring onto and leave on site

Reduce Carbon Emissions:

  • Arrive at the Lido on foot, by bike or car share

Reduce Water Consumption:

  • Shower before swimming
  • Wear a swim cap whilst in the water
  • Apply suncream at leat 30 minutes before entering the pool

Our CEO Julie’s Rowing Challenge for Sandford Parks Lido 🚣🏼‍♀️

“As CEO of the Lido, I felt it was my duty to take on a personal challenge to support our sustainability project. This year, I discovered rowing with the charity Just Row Gloucestershire, and to my surprise, despite my previous injuries, my body can row! So, it only felt right to set myself a rowing challenge!”

Julie’s training is in full swing - 25KM on the rowing machine before she heads to work 🔥 Though the sound of the rower is driving her kids mad, she moved her sessions to the deck…now it’s probably the neighbours turn! 😅😂
